Alexander Dining Hall—Fresh Look, Fresh Food

At Geneva College, dining is about more than just getting a meal; it’s a shared experience centered on building community and enjoying Christian fellowship. And thanks to the improvements that will take place over the summer months, the culinary experience on campus will soon be even better. Alexander Dining Hall—also known as Alex’s—will be getting a major update.

In line with its goal of improving student satisfaction and vision of providing the “highest quality food service available,” Pioneer College Caterers is generously funding renovations to Alex’s. With the most recent facelift to the dining hall taking place in 1993, the change is welcomed by all involved.

“After over 20 years, the space is tired and worn out,” says Associate Vice President of Operations and Human Resources Tim Baird. “Aesthetic improvements include creating a fresh, contemporary atmosphere in the seating area with new furniture, design and lighting elements, counter seating, and carpeting and flooring.”

But looks aren’t the only thing being upgraded. Director of Food Services Clayton Cappellanti adds, “Along with the new appearance, an improved food program with more options will provide the Geneva community a more enjoyable eating experience.”

Additions to the serving area highlight prepared-to-order options. New service elements include a pizza station with rotating specialty pizzas; a “Subzone,” featuring sandwiches and wraps; and a “Habanero” Mexican-style grill serving burritos, rice bowls and salads in the style of the popular Chipotle food chain.

Enhancements also include a pasta bar; a carving station; and a grill with expanded made-to-order offerings, such as eggs during breakfast and an assortment of sandwiches and sides throughout the day. The salad bar, entrée line and self-cook station will be redesigned, and the rotisserie chicken, sweets, breakfast and beverage stations will be relocated to more convenient areas.

So students can look forward to a new dining experience characterized by a fresh look, as well as fresh food and food choices, when they arrive at Geneva for the fall 2014 semester. Bon appetit!
