NCCAA_3314.gifBeaver Falls, PA– The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has selected three Geneva student-athletes who have upheld character and found success in the recent competition as the NCCAA student-athlete of the week in their respectable events (track/field). On Thursday February 27 the Geneva College men and women’s indoor track & field programs competed in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championships which would be the program’s all-time best performances among conference competitors.

Alyana Merkle (Chambersburg, PA) was selected as the women’s track NCCAA student-athlete of the week. Merkle finished with a gold, silver and bronze medal at the conference meet. She ran the one mile in 5:25.58 in her gold medal finish among 19 conference competitors. In addition, she was part of the team that finished third in the women’s distance medley relay (13:56.48).

Josh Guiser (Fayette City, PA) was selected for his performance in the 60 meter, 200 meter, 4x400 meter relay. Guiser finished second in both the 60 meter (7.09) an 200 meter (22.68), resetting the school record in both events. In addition, he anchored the third place finish in the men’s 4x400 meter relay.

After the meet, head coach Brian Yowler commented, “Hands down this was the best complete team efforts that I've experienced as a track coach at Geneva. Our captains (Merkle, Kluitenberg, Williams, Guiser, Logan) led the way with some amazing performances and with so many freshman contributing, the future looks very bright.”
