Veterans and Military Servicemembers

Geneva College welcomes the opportunity to educate men and women who have served or are currently serving our country in the military services. Our counselors work with veterans, active duty personnel, reservists and dependents to help ensure they receive maximum tuition benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense and Armed Forces.

Geneva College’s traditional undergraduate, Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCP) and graduate programs are approved for veterans, active duty personnel, reservists or qualifying dependents to use their GI Bill education benefits and military Tuition Assistance.

In order to make completing a degree more accessible for adult students, Geneva offers the Adult Degree Completion Program for bachelor’s degrees and the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) at convenient locations throughout western Pennsylvania.

Tuition Discounts for Educational Partnerships

Geneva provides tuition discounts that apply to members of the 171st Pennsylvania Air National Guard, the 911th Airlift Wing U.S. Air Force Reserve and the 99th Regional Readiness Command, U.S. Army.

Those who enroll in the college’s Adult Degree Completion Program are eligible for these discounts.

College Credit for Military Education

Geneva College recognizes learning acquired while serving in the U. S. Armed Forces. Veterans and servicemembers may receive undergraduate elective credit for Basic Training and formal education gained in the military.

The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends college credit for military training and experience, and Geneva College considers the advisory ACE credit recommendations for potential transfer credit.

CCAF (Air Force), AARTS (Army), SMARTS (Navy/Marines) transcripts, and forms DD 295 and DD 214 provide documentation of potential transfer credit.

College Credit for CLEP/DANTES

Geneva College recognizes comprehensive subject knowledge demonstrated by passing CLEP/DANTES exams in relevant subject areas. The College Board provides transcripts for military personnel documenting CLEP exam scores.

Military Tuition Assistance

The Armed Forces offers soldiers, sailors, marines, guardsmen, and airmen several programs to support their education goals including Tuition Assistance for college courses taken during off-duty hours. All Geneva College master’s degree, bachelor’s degree and associate degree programs are approved for payment of Tuition Assistance.

VA-GI Bill Benefits

Geneva College is approved for Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits provided by the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30 or Chapter 1606), the Reserve Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 1607) and Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), and individuals qualifying for Chapter 35 and Chapter 31. All Geneva College master’s degree, bachelor’s degree and associate degree programs are approved for payment of GI Bill educational benefits.

Post-9/11 GI Bill

The Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) is the most comprehensive education benefit package since the original Montgomery GI Bill signed into law in 1944.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education, including books, and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.

Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program)

The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. The program is an education benefit in which colleges enter into an agreement with the VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.

The highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate in Pennsylvania is $886 per credit. Geneva tuition and fees for 2009-10 do not exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition and are covered under the base benefit of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, so the Yellow Ribbon Program does not apply.
