Meet the Coach
Starting a new era of Geneva women’s basketball in 2003-04, Ron Galbreath became the fifth head coach to take over the reigns since 1972 when the sport began intercollegiate. The unlikeliest of coaches, Galbreath spent 31 years coaching men’s basketball, 25 of which came at arch rival Westminster College. With an overall coaching record of 614-286, Galbreath has certainly left his mark on the region as one of the finest coaches in the last quarter century. Beginning his coaching at Westminster for the 1968-69 season, Galbreath moved on to Clarion University for the next five seasons. Over the next 25 years, Galbreath led Westminster’s men’s team to six regular season/district titles and three trips to the NAIA Division I National Tournament. In all, 18 of his teams qualified for post-season play with 11 of those teams reaching the finals. Galbreath added to his impressive resume by guiding Geneva's women to its first NAIA national tournament this past season and a school record 24 victories in the finest single season in school history. Having started his coaching career at Geneva as an assistant coach, as well as coaching against the Golden Tornadoes on over 50 occasions, Galbreath is no stranger to College Hill. In addition, his wife and two brothers are Geneva alumni, and he moved his popular summer camps to Geneva College in 2001. In fact, Galbreath, who earned his Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Pittsburgh, wrote his dissertation on the history and philosophy of Geneva College.
Galbreath has received numerous personal honors throughout his basketball coaching career. He has been named district/conference Coach of the Year on six occasions, including two of the past three years in which the Keystone Empire Collegiate Conference existed. Galbreath was also named Pittsburgh Press District Coach of the Year in 1987 and is a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Contact Coach Galbreath by email at rgalbrea@geneva.edu. |

"I'm thankful to be working at Geneva College, where the excellence of Christian scholarship and athletics are held in high regard," Galbreath said. "I am very excited about our program. We have brought in some outstanding athletes and I am looking forward to helping them become solid college players. It has been a blessing to get back into coaching and I am anxious to work alongside coach Case again this season and help our program continue to grow."
