Baseball
Geneva's 2009 baseball season ended with its third consecutive trip to the NCCAA national tournament. The Golden Tornadoes were 23-18 in 2009 and used an impressive offensive attack, along with the arms of Derek Sumner and Matt Baer to lead the way on the mound. With the key components of Derek Sumner, Nick Phillips, Tadd Eyster and Andy Lubich lost to graduation, the Golden Tornadoes will welcome the return of several veterans to the line-up next year. Geneva's offense posted a team batting average of close to .340 in 2009 and returning starters Jon Jurinko, Joe Jurinko, Phil Shallenberger, Justin McGurgan, Joel Gatti and Justin Acosta will look to continue their offensive onslaught next year. Head coach Alan Sumner will open his 22nd season in 2010 and will need just two victories to become Geneva's first 500 game winner in any sport.
