The Singing of Psalms

Singing Psalms at Geneva College

Geneva College is an institution of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, a denomination which traces its historical roots to the Reformation in Scotland. One unique feature of that heritage and tradition is its formal worship where the Psalms alone are sung in four part harmony, without instrumental accompaniment.

During the school year Geneva provides opportunity to experience this worship tradition when local congregations are invited to conduct worship on the campus and invites the campus community to worship with them. This occurs the morning of the first Lord’s Day of the fall semester and in one evening worship service each semester.

While Geneva chapel services are not the formal worship of the church, the college honors this worship tradition by using the Psalms in a variety of settings, both traditional and contemporary, some with instrumental accompaniment.

Those who would like more information on this worship tradition are invited to visit the Reformed Presbyterian Church’s Web site.
