Freshman Honors Program

Freedom easily and quickly conjures up many images, from the Declaration of Independence to getting a driver’s license to a famous speech by Martin Luther King Jr. to Iraqi freedom to being set free in Christ to leaving home and coming to college! That’s why we think it makes a great theme for Geneva’s Freshman Honors Program; it is such a rich and multifaceted concept that provides provocative insights and direction for life in God’s world! The design of the Freshman Honors Program is to explore this theme through the following components:
- Community Housing
Students in the Freshman Honors Program are strongly encouraged to live in close proximity to other students in the Program in an effort to foster vibrant social networks and to extend their experiences beyond the classroom and into the residence halls. - Great Books Courses
Students in the Freshman Honors Program will enroll in a one-credit book discussion course in both Fall and Spring semesters. The books used in these 10-week discussions will be related directly to the theme of Freedom. - Honors Forums
Students in the Freshman Honors Program will join faculty members for monthly forums to examine contemporary issues such as technology, diversity, and war in an effort to hone critical thinking skills and provide clearer direction for signposting God’s kingdom in contemporary society. -
Honors Excursions

Students in the Freshman Honors Program will begin the Program with an off-campus retreat to introduce the program, to meet one another, to be introduced to the theme of Freedom, and to have a great time! Likewise, as a capstone experience to conclude the Program, students will leave campus at the end of the Spring semester for a several-day excursion to Washington D.C. Cost for travel and lodging is covered for all participants in the program.
Tuition Benefit
Students enrolled in the Freshman Honors Program receive a waiver for credits taken in excess of 17 in any given semester.
Qualified Students
Students are selected to participate in the Freshman Honors Program based upon their academic credentials from high school. The Honors Program Selection Committee will notify selected students in the spring of their senior year. Students who wish to participate must return the response card to notify the committee of their acceptance as space in the program is limited.
Program Requirements
Students who are invited to participate in the Freshman Honors Program are expected to participate actively in all components of the program. They must also earn a 3.4 grade average at the end of the Fall semester to continue in the Program in the spring semester.
Invitation
To be invited into the program, students must apply and be admitted by December 1.
