Messages from Parents

My son is currently a sophomore in Student/Youth Ministries, and I praise the Lord daily that He led Vince to attend Geneva. Not only is my son getting the highest quality education imaginable, but he's constantly growing in faith and developing fine morals and interpersonal skills through his interactions with like-minded fellow students and an incredible faculty. Geneva is the perfect place to make lifelong friends - I know Vince is happier at Geneva than he's ever been, and will never forget his amazing years there!

Dear Parents,

If you are reading this letter, you are no doubt in the process of helping your child make the important decision about where to attend college.  As parents, we know that college is a time when career decisions are made, lifelong relationships are formed, and where a student’s world and life view begins to take shape.

As parents of a Geneva College student, my husband Calvin and I are so excited about the ways in which Geneva is having an impact in our daughter Rebekah’s life.  She is receiving an excellent education in which she has the opportunity to explore God’s truth in every subject she studies.  Geneva College takes integration of Biblical faith very seriously and she is being challenged to explore her areas of study from a Biblical perspective. We have seen tremendous growth in Rebekah as she explores the Scriptures and the world in this way.

Rebekah has been encouraged in her faith as she lives and works in the Geneva community.  The faculty and administration at Geneva care about the students on a personal level and the students have the opportunity to learn in class and be mentored outside of class.  Rebekah has developed strong friendships with fellow students from across the country and around the world.  She is participating in quality extracurricular activities such as band, choir, and various academic clubs.

Geneva College provides an environment where every student is challenged to explore God’s call on their life.  As she works toward knowing what God has in store for her after graduation, Rebekah has received meaningful input from faculty and staff.  Geneva emphasizes involvement in the local church while at college and there are many local churches that welcome Geneva students to be involved, several within walking distance.  Rebekah has really benefited from having a church home “away from home.”  Geneva students are also encouraged to think about how they can serve the broader community, with many ministry projects and service opportunities available.

Our second daughter is planning on attending Geneva as a freshman in the fall.  We are excited to see what God will do in her life as a result of the ministry of Geneva College.  As you consider where the Lord may have your student attend college, I encourage you to visit Geneva and get to know the wonderful people there.  You will see a campus full of men and women who love students, love education, and most of all, love the Lord.  May the Lord bless you in your search.

My daughter, Bethany Russell, transferred to Geneva this year as a sophomore, and I want to say how impressed and pleased we have been with the experience. The admissions department was diligent in keeping her in the pipeline and helping with transfer plans. When we moved her into the dorms I was impressed with the attitude of all the students. We were especially thankful for the students that were on hand to help move Bethany in.

Last Saturday we made another trip to Geneva. We came up to spend most of the day with Bethany. I had more time to see the campus and tour some of the buildings. It really is a nice campus. I even spent some time in the library grading papers and found it to be a delightful place to sit on comfortable chairs and have a cup of coffee. I must say I am rather envious of my colleagues teaching in a Christian environment with a rich reformed heritage.

For me, it was a spiritual oasis. Please let others know that this parent is very grateful for the Christian environment that Geneva continues to provide. As a faculty member and department chair at a state university, I am impressed with the qualityof both the faculty and the students.

… We have watched both of our girls develop into fine Christian women, with a solid, Christ-centered foundation. The spiritual growth they have experienced at Geneva is amazing. I will never forget Carrie's first phone call from school-how she excitedly told us that her classes all began with prayer!

I know all too well, from working at a secular college, that children sometimes come away from their college experience with not-so-positive changes. I am not naïve enough to think that every Geneva graduate has the same experiences as my daughters, but I know that the vast majorities do. It is only because of the solid commitment of Geneva to Christian principles and practices.

We will always be proud to say to others that our daughters are Geneva graduates. I hope that in the future, if we can ever serve as a resource to parents or potential students, that you will call on us to share our feelings on Geneva -we will gladly serve as ambassadors for such a fine institution.
