Connecting PC/Laptops to the Internet
Prior to bringing your computer to campus, you are strongly encouraged to attempt to configure your computer for use on the secure campus network. There are six steps you need to perform to configure your computer for use on the campus network:
- Update your computer(Windows or Mac) so that the operating system (OS) is current with all patches
- Ensure your computer has auto-updating turned on for the OS
- Verify that your Anti-Virus is receiving updates and that it is not a trial version.
- Download and install the certificate for Geneva wireless
- Configure WPA2 on your computer
- Download the Safe Connect client
Instructions for steps 4-6 can be found at www.geneva.edu/internet_connectivity.
Please note you no longer need to make an account to use Geneva’s wired or wireless networks. Your password is the same as the one for student email, web registration and Blackboard.

The Technology Services Help Desk provides support for the following types of issues: Account Username/Password Resetting of Forgotten Passwords Network Connectivity ID Card Access Student Personal PC or Laptop Blackboard or Web Registration Printing in the Labs Geneva College Owned Equipment Software-Based Setup and Fixes
Problems with student computers are handled by Technology Services student workers. You do not need to stop at the Help Desk for this service. This service is FREE and includes most software-based setup and fixes (Windows OS updates and reloads, virus software installation, virus fixes, wireless setup, set up required for connection to the campus network, application software setup and troubleshooting). Most hardware issues will NOT be fixed here, because opening the PC case typically voids the PC warranty. See section Tech Services Student Computer Service Procedure for details on using this service.
To request a password change you must obtain a form in SE room 121 or at the Help Desk. Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the form.
Requests for assistance with audio-visual should be directed to the Director of Audio-Visual in SE 121.
Requests for assistance with duplicating or campus mail services should be directed to the Director of Mail and Print Services in the Mail Room. |
