ADCP and the Geneva College Homecoming 2011
Even the weather couldn′t dampen the spirits of those attending the Homecoming events at Geneva College′s campus in Beaver Falls on October 1. The attractions included plenty of food, live music, special reunions, face painting and a puppet show for the kids. The festivities ended with an exciting football match against St. Vincent in which the Geneva College Tornadoes were victorious in overtime!
Staff from the Adult Degree Completion Program office could be found at the ADCP booth in the Student Center on Saturday. Participating in the homecoming events is one way the ADCP has found to tell all of our students, alumni and families “thank you” for the commitment they have made to the college and to their education. The department sponsored a giveaway which included a Geneva College blanket, hooded sweatshirt and a tote bag full of goodies, and a fall-themed basket for the attendants. But while only a few walked away with those goodies, baskets of candy, pens, lip balm and lunch tickets were available for all to enjoy!
Attendees enjoyed a visit from sports radio personality Bob Barrickman of WBVP for the football game. Before kickoff, Barrickman was able to interview some people, including ADCP′s own Dr. Ralph Phillips who was happy to share information about the ADCP and his relationship with his alma mater. “Homecoming is all about relationships—relationships with alumni, friends and instructors,” says Dr. Phillips, Assistant Dean of Adult Education. “It reminds me of the ongoing blessings I have enjoyed by virtue of being an alumnus of the College. That blessing has extended to my entire family, and of course, my relationship with Geneva has had a strong positive impact on my career, as it has had on so many other alumni. Just today I spoke with an excited ADCP alum who was offered a position with a Pennsylvania state agency as a researcher. Little did she (or I, or the many ADCP alumni) realize when she enrolled with an ADCP cohort the tremendous impact that decision would have on her career.”
