Your Key to Success: The Academic Success Coach

Jenna Bieber

Meet Jenna Bieber. Jenna works in the Geneva College Department of Professional and Online Graduate Studies as the Academic Success Coach. Jenna is a 2012 graduate of Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a concentration in secondary education. In 2015 she graduated from Geneva College with a master's degree in higher education. When not at work, she enjoys singing with her church's worship team, staying active and reading. And she is currently working on many house projects with her husband Brian.

But what students in the Adult Degree Programs really need to know about Jenna is all of the work she does for them in the office. She provides interventions, resources and support to meet academic needs. Jenna monitors the progress of online students as they progress through their courses by watching discussion boards and assignment postings in order to offer any help and encouragement where it is needed. This ensures that students stay on track with their coursework and stay connected to the people and resources they need to be successful. She also helps students with college skills such as writing basics and practical strategies including developing a workable degree plan and time- and stress-management skills.

Jenna encourages all students to use the resources available to them, which includes her services! She has a desire to see all students succeed in the goals they have set for themselves. She wants them to know that she is happy to help answer questions, get them the help needed and even just talk through their experience as an adult student. Jenna is also happy to share that soon students will be able to enroll in a new online course, “Success Strategies for the Adult Learner.” They’ll be equipped with useful tools and resources, especially as they transition to online learning at Geneva. The course explores topics like writing basics, goal-setting, faith and learning, reading strategies, APA style, and more! The courses in the Geneva College Adult Degree Programs are flexible and convenient, but that doesn't mean they are easy. Help and support is readily available—just ask Jenna!

Awarding Academic Excellence

To help adults who are seeking an accredited bachelor’s degree, Geneva is offering Step Forward and Phi Theta Kappa scholarships of up to $3,000 off the total cost of tuition for any major, either classroom-based or fully online.

The Step Forward and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) scholarships are awarded at a rate of up to $1,000 per term (for up to three semesters or terms). Students must have a transfer GPA of at least 3.25 to be eligible to receive either scholarship for the first term of their degree program major. Phi Theta Kappa membership is an additional requirement for the PTK scholarship. To renew the scholarship for a maximum of three terms, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and be enrolled in at least 12 credits per semester.

Additional financial aid is available to many students enrolling in the Adult Degree Programs. Be sure to speak to your enrollment counselor to understand the various loans, grants and scholarships available. If you are a service member or eligible for tuition reimbursement from your employer, let your enrollment counselor know to ensure the best possible financial aid.
