Highlight on MSOL Faculty - John Stanko

John StankoJohn Stanko, MSOL adjunct faculty member, is a busy man. He serves as administrative pastor at Allegheny Center Alliance Church on the North Side of Pittsburgh. He also serves on the faculty and administration of Geneva College′s Center for Urban Biblical Ministry in the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh. And when not teaching or pastoring, John is an author, with 12 books to his name to date.

“I enjoy writing and it′s sort of like my hobby. I don′t feel a day is complete if I have not spent some time writing,” John said in a recent radio interview. John′s latest books include The Faith Files, Volume Two and The Revelation Project: A Fresh Look at the Last Book. The Faith Files is a devotional study of every verse about faith found in Paul′s epistles. Faith Files: Volume One is a devotional study of faith from the gospels. The Revelation Project is a verse-by-verse devotional on the book of Revelation.

“Revelation is a book of victory, showing that Christ is exalted over all philosophies and rulers,” John explained. “I wanted to write something that would make Revelation less bizarre and more accessible to the everyday reader.”

John′s books can be ordered through Amazon or through his website, where you can learn more about John′s organization, PurposeQuest.

John and a team from his church recently left for Kenya, where they will minister to orphans and widows. You can read about or donate to The Sophia Fund and other initiatives for Kenya on John′s blog, on which he also publishes a daily devotional from Proverbs.

When he returns from Kenya, John will continue offering academically challenging, Christ-centered instruction to the students of Geneva′s MSOL program. "I am so impressed with the MSOL program and it has been a joy to interface with the material and fellow instructors,” he said. “I hope to help make Geneva's MSOL program one that people seek from all over the country for its content and Christian worldview."

Words to Lead by

“We find that people's beliefs about their efficacy affect the sorts of choices they make in very significant ways. In particular, it affects their levels of motivation and perseverance in the face of obstacles. Most success requires persistent effort, so low self-efficacy becomes a self-limiting process. In order to succeed, people need a sense of self-efficacy, strung together with resilience to meet the inevitable obstacles and inequities of life.”
Albert Bandura

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
- Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)
