Chelynne Kramer Curci, Cohort 60

Main Street Manager, Butler Downtown

The primary purpose of the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) program is to provide working adults the opportunity for continued professional growth through the study, research and application of leadership and organizational theory. With the skills developed in the program, MSOL graduates are empowered to impact their organizations.

Chelynne Kramer Curci, a graduate of MSOL Cranberry Cohort 60, was recently named the Main Street Manager for Butler Downtown. And in that position, she relies on the lessons she learned in the MSOL program, demonstrating that effective leadership is about relationships, influence and service.

Chelynne shares, "Butler Downtown is a nationally accredited and state certified Main Street Program. Our sole purpose is to revitalize the City of Butler while preserving its historic assets.

The MSOL program prepared me to take on my new role. Being a Main Street Manager is the definition of being a serving leader. My job is to turn the goals of my board, my committees and my volunteers into reality. I am excited to participate in a Compression Planning session with local business owners in a few days. I utilize so many of the skills and concepts that I learned in the MSOL program every single day, especially those from Leadership and Organizational Change. "

pic-butler-downtown.jpgOver the past 30 years, the Main Street movement has transformed the way communities think about the revitalization and management of their downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts. Cities and towns across the nation have come to see that a prosperous, sustainable community is only as healthy as its core. The Main Street initiative encompasses three things: a proven strategy for revitalization, a powerful network of linked communities and a national support program that leads the field. In other words, it is about real places doing real work to revitalize economies and preserve their character.

Chelynne will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of Butler Downtown′s commercial revitalization process. She will execute considerable independent judgment and initiative under the guidance of the board of directors. Working closely with four volunteer committees, Chelynne will be responsible for developing new vigor in the Butler community. She will accomplish this by organizing downtown interests in a unified manner, working towards common-end objectives, approaching design issues as a means to create or preserve an attractive physical setting, and coordinating promotional activities to attract new economic life. Initiatives include efforts to structure economic opportunities, attract new business interests and develop viable marketplace enterprises.

Chelynne says, "I am optimistic about the future of Butler Downtown. I have a lot of confidence in our executive committee. Our committee chairs, board members and volunteers are stellar, upstanding people. The Special Gifts Campaign is off to a great start."

"I am also incredibly excited! All four of the Butler Downtown committees have very clear and achievable goals for 2012. We have developed some great partnerships with other organizations and businesses both in and around the city. I have had numerous people reach out to me about wanting to help our organization in a variety of ways. I am honored to be the new Main Street Manager for Butler Downtown. I still have much to learn, but I am eager to do so."

Prior to earning an M.S. in Organizational Leadership from Geneva College, Chelynne earned a B.S. in Business Management from Grove City College. Her previous experience includes working and volunteering with Butler Downtown as the Chair of Promotions.

Congratulations, Chelynne!
