MSOL Blog Talk Radio Reaches Over 11,000 Listeners

Have you heard about MSOL's BlogTalkRadio? MSOL now hosts an online radio show for students and listeners to not only learn about the program, but also engage in topics of interest for all current and aspiring leaders. Although the show has aired for only nine months, over 11,000 listeners have already logged in to enjoy the wealth of knowledge offered by MSOL faculty, alumni, students and notable guest speakers.

The idea for BlogTalkRadio came from MSOL professor Dr. John Stanko, who began a similar radio program at his church. The popularity of that show along with the increasing interest in leadership studies gave him the idea to host a show for the MSOL:

"I thought that this was the perfect medium for us to start 'publishing' the good work that was being done in and through the MSOL faculty, students and alumni.".

While Dr. Stanko helps to design and direct the content and themes, retired MSOL professor Dr. Maureen Vanterpool acts as the producer, scheduling guests such as leadership experts Henry Cloud and Ken Blanchard. Dr. Vanterpool believes passionately that even natural-born leaders need to cultivate and develop their leadership skills. And through BlogTalkRadio, the talents of many great leaders and teachers are easily accessible to facilitate this type of growth.

The hard work and commitment to educating leaders displayed by these professors extends the MOL program′s reach beyond the walls of the classroom. Dr. Stanko says, “I hope it not only gives the listeners an accurate and exciting look into the MSOL program, but also stimulates their thinking about leadership topics.”
Tune in every Friday at 4 p.m. to listen in live, or visit the website to access archived shows: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/genevacollegemsol. Future topics of BlogTalkRadio include Leadership and Strategy, Annotated Bibliographies, The Integrated Leadership Project and The Writing Workshop. If you're interested in joining us as a BlogTalkRadio participant, or if there is a leadership topic that you would like to hear more about, email msol@geneva.edu.

A Word from Dr. Dittmar

The 2014 Geneva College MSOL Serving Leader Conference

Standing on the stage before the opening of the 2014 Geneva College MSOL Serving Leader Conference, I could not help but think back to the very first one held in October 1995. Attendance was around 40 people. Max DePree, at that time the well-known CEO of Herman Miller Furniture Company in Grand Rapids, MI, and author of two very popular leadership books, Leadership Jazz and Leadership is an Art, was our speaker.

I guess this sort of “thinking back” is not uncommon. At that time, MSOL had not yet started—and now we have over 1,000 graduates. Since that first conference, we′ve had numerous leadership experts as keynote speakers for our annual conferences, drawing hundreds of people from the Greater Pittsburgh area. When I see nearly 500 people in the audience as I did at this year′s conference, I am very thankful. God has indeed blessed us.

Dr. Henry Cloud did a wonderful job of sharing “golden nuggets” of leadership wisdom, keeping all of us engaged throughout the day with his wit and ability to connect. Likewise, for this event to succeed, some great behind-the-scene kind of work happens. I am so appreciative of the efforts of the MSOL office staff and faculty who helped make this event a success. Also, many thanks to our MSOL alumni, who are always willing to step up help the day of the event.

Mark your calendars for the 2014 Geneva MSOL Leadership in Action Fall Conference on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Learn how other individuals and organizations implemented principles shared during this year′s conference, Boundaries for Leadership. Dr. Henry Cloud will join us by phone for a Q&A session.
