Quest Trips

Geneva student working on a Quest trip.

"This trip helped me find people at Geneva who share my ideals and values and passions. I learned what a powerful experience a mission trip is- it reminded me of what is important in life and of all the things I have been chasing that don't really bring happiness. I learned more about who I am, who God is, and what He made me to do."

Quest Student participant- Mexico, March 2010.

Quest is defined as a pursuit, search, or investigation.

When we send teams out on Quest Trips over spring break, our hope is that they go with a desire to pursue knowledge of God′s work in the world and in search of ways to come alongside others who are serving in great ways in so many cities. Our hope is that they will walk away with a desire to investigate new ways to love God with their whole heart, soul, and mind, and to love neighbors both near and far.

This spring break, the Center for Faith and Practice will send students on Quest Trips to Jamaica, Aliquippa, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. Through these short-term mission trips, students will be pushed outside of their comfort zone and challenged to think differently about what it means to interact with the world as a follower of Christ.

I have seen that these types of trips promote growth in students as leaders, expand their knowledge about God′s work in the world, help them better understand the hope of the Gospel, and give them new ways to look outside of themselves during a time when they are thinking critically about God′s call on their life.

This March might be a great time to encourage your student to step out and serve on one of these trips. It could be going to Jamaica and working alongside our brothers and sisters there, seeing the opportunities to serve locally by going to Aliquippa or Pittsburgh, continuing the work to rehabilitate the city of New Orleans, or to listen and learn from policy makers in Washington DC. Any of these trips will provide them a unique educational experience.

Applications for international trips are due on November 3 with a $100 deposit. Applications for domestic trips are due January 19 with a $50 deposit. Full trip prices are listed below.

Jamaica-serving with Won by One in Harmons, Jamaica-$1500/person

Aliquippa-serving with Uncommon Grounds and Aliquippa Impact-$85/person

Pittsburgh-serving with several organizations including the Pittsburgh Project-Price TBD

New Orleans-serving with Trinity Christian Community-$375/person

Washington DC-serving in the nation′s capital while learning from organizations like Bread for the World, IJM, and the State Dept. for Human Trafficking-$400/person

My hope is that students will be uncomfortable as they are called to serve in God′s Kingdom. May we continue to understand better what it means to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly.

"In Jamaica I decided I had to help people. I knew I had to be a doctor. This is where I felt called."
