The 2013-14 academic year is about to begin!
Within a week, the resident assistants will be returning to campus for training, with athletes, band members and other students soon to follow. We are excited to welcome both returning and incoming students back to campus and into what God has in store for each of them. This new academic year brings some changes on campus.
Following two years of service with her husband in the Semester in Rome program, Joy Doyle has accepted the position of Director of Career Services. Joy received her B.S.B.A. from Geneva in 2008, her MBA in 2012, and has served in the college′s admissions and human resources departments. She is excited about this new adventure of helping students to discover their gifts and discern God′s calling.
We also welcome Rutledge "Rut" Etheridge III as Geneva′s new chaplain. In this role, he will assist students, faculty and staff in understanding events as they relate to spiritual and emotional well-being, oversee Geneva′s chapel program, and collaborate with the college′s church relations program and Center for Faith and Practice (CFP), while also teaching part-time in the Bible, Christian Ministries and Philosophy department.
Some familiar faces serving in new roles include:
- Dr. Adel Aiken, Chair of the Education Department
- Dr. Jonathan Watt, Chair of the Bible, Christian Ministries and Philosophy Department
- Dr. Gary Vander Plaats, MBA Program Director
- Van Zanic, Interim Athletic Director
Speakers on campus this fall are scheduled to include Rosaria Champagne Butterfield, author of The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert; Dr. John M. Perkins, author of Let Justice Roll Dow; and Amy Sherman, author of Kingdom Calling: Vocational Stewardship for the Common Good. These and additional guest speakers, along with faculty and staff, will be challenging students to consider tough topics and how to respond as Christians to the world in which we live.
Please join me in praying that Geneva College community will fulfill its mission of being "a Christ-centered academic community that provides a comprehensive education to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor."
"May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands." Psalm 90:17
