Amanda Weathers - Music Grad

Amanda Weathers
The first time she heard New Song when she visited Geneva College, Amanda Weathers thought to herself, “I would love to be up there singing with them.” Now, four years later, she is heading off with the other eight members of the 2008 New Song on its annual summer tour.

“I'm really excited; it’s going to be great.”

A senior with a music major, Amanda first became interested in coming to Geneva when her best friend visited. “I wanted to go to school with her, and when she told me about Geneva, I came and looked around.” First attracted by the friendliness and helpfulness of the campus, Amanda believed Geneva to be God’s plan for her, even though her friend ended up attending a different college.

“I would definitely recommend Geneva to anyone, mostly because of the people. There are so many godly Christians on campus, and they're so great; they make you a better person,” says Amanda. She also states that the academics side of Geneva is a great draw, too. “The classes are sometimes tough but you learn a lot, and the professors help you become a well-rounded person.”

One professor at Geneva who particularly influenced Amanda is Mrs. Copeland, director of New Song. Before auditioning for New Song, Amanda knew Mrs. C, as students call her, as her vocal coach. “Although she’s a busy woman, she’s always ready to stop and pray with you. She’s very inspirational and very sweet,” Amanda says.

Amanda has been involved in musical groups, including The Genevans, during her years at Geneva. One of her favorite memories of her college experience is The Genevans’ tour in Europe her freshman year. She hopes to continue in music and make it her career, although she isn't sure how as of now. “I might go on to graduate school eventually. I don't know. I'm just waiting on God now,” says Amanda.
