Jordan Harbison
Every year, hundreds of Geneva freshmen nervously await the first day of college. But for those like Jordan Harbison, a transfer student, they nervously await their second first day of college.
Jordan’s story began at Gannon University in Erie, Pa. Although Gannon fit his academic standards, it lacked the community he desired. Jordan, a three-year starter for basketball, was also an athlete in high school, but could not play at Gannon.
After completing one year there, Jordan knew it was time for a change. Like many people, he turned to his family, full of Geneva alumni, for guidance. Quickly, Geneva became a serious consideration for Jordan. He began researching it and eventually got in contact with an admissions counselor. “She answered every question I had, and if she didn't know the answer, she knew someone who did. It took all the stress out of the process of transferring.”
Geneva was beginning to look like the perfect fit for Jordan. He finished up the paperwork and decided to talk to the Men’s Basketball Coach. “It’s always been important for me to use my athletic abilities to honor God, and Geneva gives me the opportunity to do that,” Jordan said.
For Jordan, transitioning to life at Geneva was close to effortless. He chose Business as his major, with a minor in Sports Management. “I really like that the class size is small enough to let me have a personal relationship with my professors.” All his teachers were extremely helpful in getting Jordan acclimated to Geneva’s climate.
The student population also met Jordan’s expectations of what a college campus should be. “The atmosphere was, and is, so friendly and energetic. I was never embarrassed to ask someone for help when I didn't know what building a class was in.” He loves how tight knit the Geneva community is.
Now in his sophomore year at Geneva, Jordan balances his schoolwork and basketball with ease. Although Jordan isn't certain what career he wants to pursue, he hopes to one day be a collegiate basketball coach.
