Fulbright U.S. Student Program

How does Fulbright work at Geneva College?

The Fulbright program is government-funded and seeks students who have the desire to apply for overseas study or teaching.  Crossroads will facilitate the application process, devising a Statement of Grant Purpose, and the various steps of sending a Geneva student abroad via Fulbright. For more information, email crossroads@geneva.edu.

What is the Fulbright U.S. Student Program?

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for the purpose of study, research, or English Teaching Assistant Programs in countries outside of the U.S.  The grants fund a self-designed program and last for one academic year.

During the academic year abroad, a Fulbrighter will engage people of the host country with whom he/she works, studies, and lives. By granting individuals a cross-cultural experience within the classroom, home, field, and other tasks, the Fulbright program will provide the grantee with greater understanding of the different ideas and methods of others. As the grantee lives in the host country, an atmosphere of openness, intellectual edification, and academe will promote a mutual empathy between American culture and the culture of the host country.

Who can apply to the Fulbright Student Program?

Recent graduates

Graduating seniors and bachelor’s-degree recipients can apply for projects for which their undergraduate degree has prepared them.

Master's and doctoral candidates

Graduate students who are pursuing either a master’s or doctorate level degree may apply for projects within locations of which they have a general knowledge of the country’s background and current issues.

Young professionals, including writers, creative and performing artists, journalists, and those in law, business, and other professional fields

Fulbright is available to you, even after you have graduation and job placement. Any students with five years or less of experience in one’s field can apply to a program within their area of study or work.

Applicants who do not have experience in the country of application will be given preference to those who do.
