It seemed like freshman orientation this week for both the men's and women's basketball teams at Geneva College. The men's team used a pair freshman on Saturday night to get itself out of a four-game slide while the women posted a perfect 3-0 week on the strength of a couple newcomers off the bench.

Geneva College's men's basketball team had not won a game since posting an overtime victory against Bethany on December 13. After a four-game drought, the Golden Tornadoes were finally able to post a win on Saturday against Waynesburg. In the most complete effort of the season, Geneva picked up an 80-60 win over the Yellowjackets. David Phillips was 5-5 from three point range in the first half and finished with a game high 25 points. Freshman counterpart Lambros Svingos scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the win over Waynesburg. The victory moved Geneva to 3-9 on the season as it gets set for the first three-game week of the season beginning on the road tonight against Penn State Beaver.

Geneva's women are just coming off a three-game week that saw them post a perfect record. The Golden Tornadoes were able to pick up victories over Fredonia State, Chatham and Waynesburg to improve to 7-5 on the season. Christine Carugati matched a season high 19 points against Waynesburg, but it was the work of a pair of freshmen off the bench that did most of the damage. In the win over Fredonia, Beth DeLuca and Alyssa Miller combined for 23 points. Against Chatham that duo combined for 33 points with DeLuca hitting a career best 19 points. Miller scored a career best 19 against Waynesburg with DeLuca adding 13 points.
