It is always harder to report a loss than it is to talk about a victory. The good news for the Geneva athletic department last week was that there was no losses to report. Geneva posted its second perfect week of the fall season as the teams combined for a perfect 8-0 record. The football team continued to roll, the volleyball team enjoyed a perfect 3-0 record as did menâ??s soccer. In womenâ??s soccer, Geneva came up with a pair of must-win victories and both cross country teams qualified for the NCCAA national meet. Other than all of that, not much good happened for the Golden Tornadoes.

Genevaâ??s football team turned a 7-0 first quarter lead into a 40-0 halftime rout with 33 second quarter points. During that scoring barrage, Geneva scored an offensive, defensive and special teams touchdown. Jake Delmonico scored on a school record 93 yard punt return becoming perhaps the first brother duo in college football history to score on kick returns for the same team in back to back weeks. AJ Delmonico scored on a 74 yard kickoff return last week against Saint Vincent. Matt Barge led the offense with three touchdowns as he celebrated senior day with 11 of his teammates. Matt Dean, another senior star, scored his 11th and 12th touchdowns of the season, including a 62 yard scamper. The third member of the Geneva back field Gerard Muschette took off on a 77-yard scamper to increase Genevaâ??s lead to 54-0 late in the third quarter. Solomon Hejirika had an eventful defensive game with a team leading 11 tackles, a fumble recovery and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a first half touchdown. Genevaâ??s 7-1 start is its best since 1997 and its 5-0 perfect home record is a first since 1995.

In womenâ??s soccer, Geneva needed two wins last week to qualify for the NCCAA post-season and that is exactly what it got. A pair of shut-out victories over Waynesburg and Thiel clinched a berth to the eastern regional tournament. Lauren Londino registered her fifth and sixth shut-outs of the season while Elise Mann scored her team leading eighth goal of the season in Genevaâ??s win over Waynesburg. Jamie Gessner was not about to see her career come to an end as she opened the scoring in Genevaâ??s 2-0 victory over Thiel on Friday. Genevaâ??s 9-8 overall record will be put on the line later this month at the NCCAA east regional.

Will the menâ??s team ever lose again? Geneva ended the regular season with a nine-game winning streak and an impressive 15-4 overall record. Victories over Point Park, Waynesburg and Thiel closed out the regular season as Geneva will now wait to find out its NCCAA post-season fate. Josh Mann ended the season with a team best 11 goals, but the Golden Tornadoes got goals from nine different players in the final week of the season. David Callahan celebrated senior day last Wednesday with his sixth shut-out of the season against Waynesburg.

The volleyball team found its winning formula with three victories last week including wins over Westminster, Waynesburg and Saint Vincent. Seniors Michelle Zimmovan and Brandi Snavely celebrated senior day on Thursday with a three-set victory over the Yellow jackets. Geneva ended the week with a 19-10 overall record and just one victory shy of back to back 20-win seasons. All that is left on the schedule is an NCCAA showdown with Malone and Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday night. A pair of victories will clinch a berth to the NCCAA national tournament in Florida later this month.

Both cross country teams had impressive performances at the PAC championships over the weekend. The men and womenâ??s teams each finished fourth overall and thus qualified for the NCCAA nationals at Cedarville later in November. In womenâ??s action, Shannon Rech received All-Conference coachâ??s honors with a tenth place finish in a time of 24:56. Other top performances included Samantha Miller (20), Julia Urbanski (22), Olivia Biddle (28) and Sarah Davis (30). For the men, freshman Nick Edinger received All-Conference honors with his 14th place finish in a time of 28:28. Ryan Thorn finished eight seconds and two spots back from Edinger while Dan Edgar finished in 26th position. Both teams will travel to Cedarville on November 14 for the NCCAA national meet.
