Just when you thought the basketball season at Metheny Fieldhouse was over, the menâ??s basketball team had different ideas. The Golden Tornadoes finished the regular season at 14-11 and will host an NCCAA eastern regional semi-final game against Roberts Wesleyan this week. Meanwhile, the womenâ??s basketball team finished the regular season with a record of 8-17 after dropping the final two games of the year. The indoor track and field team was represented by 15 student-athletes which competed in the NCCAA indoor nationals to close out the indoor season on Saturday.

The menâ??s basketball team opened the final week of the regular season needing at least one victory to qualify for the NCCAA post-season. The Golden Tornadoes did themselves one better by sweeping both games in the final week of the season. Geneva beat both Westminster and Waynesburg to finish the year at 14-11. Rich Colick posted 19 points against Westminster and a season high 32 point effort in the win at Waynesburg. Averaging 18.4 points per game this year, Colick sits just 21 points shy of the 1000 point plateau for his career. Geneva will now host Roberts Wesleyan sometime this week in the regional semi-finals. The winner between Geneva and Roberts Wesleyan will most likely face Nyack for the right to compete at the NCCAA nationals. Based on a rotation system, Geneva maintains home court advantage throughout the regional tournament.

Genevaâ??s womenâ??s basketball team ended a frustrating season at 8-17 with losses to Westminster and Waynesburg in the final week of the season. Renee Rawding scored 23 points on senior night in the final home game of her career last Wednesday night. Rawding finished as the ninth all-time leading scorer for the Golden Tornadoes. On Saturday, Rachel Barry scored 13 points as Genevaâ??s leading scorer in a game that Geneva was never able to get on track.

The indoor track and field season came to an end on Saturday at the NCCAA national meet. The highlight of the day came in the menâ??s shot put where three throwers all posted personal bests. Chance Kelosky, Tyler French and Dan Dillman all performed well with Dillman leading the way with a fifth place finish on a distance of 45 ft, 1.5 in. French finished one spot back in sixth place overall. In other menâ??s action, Stephen Polite finished seventh in the triple jump while the menâ??s 4 x 200 relay team finished eighth.

On the womenâ??s side, the distance medley team of Aisha Moore, Julia Urbanski, Sarah Davis and Shannon Rech finished seventh for the only scoring effort of the day. Urbanski may have put together the most impressive event with her personal best in the 800 meter race. With a time of 2:28.27, Urbanski posted the second best womenâ??s indoor time in that event in school history.

A sign that spring is near is the fact that the Geneva baseball team is scheduled to open their season this coming weekend with a four-game series at Cincinnati Christian. Head coach Alan Sumner will begin his 22nd season at the helm needing just two victories to become the first Geneva coach in any sport to record 500 career wins.
