No coach is satisfied with moral victories. In fact, in most cases moral victories are reserved for those teams that never have any success on the field. That couldnâ??t have been further from the truth on Saturday evening as the Geneva football team beat Washington & Jefferson in every phase and in nearly every statistical category but the final score. Geneva dropped a 22-16 decision to the Presidentâ??s but not before giving them a scare on the final drive of the game. Genevaâ??s volleyball team enjoyed a 2-1 week and matched a long-time record for wins in a season. Cross country is preparing for its biggest meet of the season while the menâ??s soccer team tied in its only match of the week and the women took out their scoring drought aggression on Chatham University.

Gerard Muschette may be a bit sore this morning as he carried the ball a personal best 39 times on Saturday night. And why not keep feeding him the ball if you are on the Geneva coaching staff? Muschette rushed for 212 yards and moved into third place on Genevaâ??s all-time rushing list with his third 200+ yard effort of the season. Nick DiPietro provided the Golden Tornadoes with three field goals while Corey Oâ??Patchen caught his eighth touchdown pass of the season. Despite taking a lead into the fourth quarter, the Golden Tornadoes were unable to hold off W & J in the final stanza. Geneva out gained W & J 348-168 but was unable to put an end to its four game home losing streak. The Golden Tornadoes take a 3-5 overall record into Thiel on Saturday afternoon.

In volleyball, Adriane Blake averaged nearly 4.5 kills per game in helping Geneva to a 2-1 week. The Golden Tornadoes did fall to Thomas More 3-0 on Saturday but not before victories against Waynesburg and Thiel pushed Genevaâ??s overall record to 23-5 in matching the record for most wins in a season set back in 1986. Geneva is a perfect 7-0 and will try to accomplish its first perfect home season in school history when it hosts Grove City on Thursday night. Freshman setter Deanna Briody picked up 52 assists in Genevaâ??s 3-1 victory over Thiel on Thursday and finished the week with an average of 11.0 assists per game.

The cross country teams did not compete this past weekend as they continue to prepare for the PAC Championships coming up this Saturday at Waynesburg University. Geneva will try to build on its success this season that has already seen nine student-athletes qualify for the NCCAA national meet coming up in November.

In a rare light week of action, the menâ??s soccer team tied Westminster 3-3 in the only match of the week. Geneva held three separate one goal leads but in each instance the Titans were able to rally for a comeback. Neither team could find the net after 20 minutes of overtime and Geneva was handed its second tie of the season. The Golden Tornadoes sit at 12-2-2 for the season and have now won a total of 51 games during the last four years. Congratulations to the 2010 senior class for becoming only the third four year class in school history to surpass the 50 win plateau.

It had been nearly five full matches since Genevaâ??s womenâ??s soccer team scored a goal. Enduring a four-game losing streak during that time, the Golden Tornadoes finally took out their aggression on Saturday in a 9-0 victory over Chatham University. Elise Mann scored two of Genevaâ??s first three goals in helping Geneva move to 10-5-3 on the season and grabbing the first double digit win season since 1998. The Golden Tornadoes close out the regular season with matches against Waynesburg and Saint Vincent this week.
