It was a case of split results for the menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams this week. Both teams split a pair of non-conference contests but both are sitting above the .500 mark following the first two weeks of the new season.

The menâ??s team posted an impressive victory over Baldwin-Wallace on Tuesday night. It was the first time Geneva had beaten Baldwin-Wallace in seven tries with the last win against the Yellow Jackets coming in 1955. Sparked by junior guard Drew Santarsieroâ??s career high 17 points, Geneva held off the Yellow Jackets for a 74-68 victory. The win pushed Genevaâ??s record to 3-0 for the first time since 1997. Richard Colick added 13 points and Bryan Hill scored ten points in the victory. Hill was injured on Saturday and was held scoreless against LaRoche leaving him just eight points shy of the 1000 point mark for his career. In Genevaâ??s 83-78 loss at LaRoche, Colick scored 26 points but it wasnâ??t enough to continue the early season winning streak. With a mark of 3-1, Geneva opens play against the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference on Wednesday night.

In womenâ??s action, Geneva rebounded from a 76-45 loss at Point Park on Tuesday by holding off Fredonia State 53-50 on Saturday afternoon. Rallying from nine points down in the second half, the Golden Tornadoes used a ferocious defensive attack to shut down the Blue Devils. Holding Fredonia to just two field goals in the final 15 minutes of the game, the Golden Tornadoes pushed their overall record to 3-2 and over .500 for the first time since early in the 2009 season. Alyse Scarsella posted her 15th career double-double on Saturday with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Beth DeLuca added ten points in the victory. Like the men, Geneva will begin play against the PAC with Washington & Jefferson visiting Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
