It went from an extreme high on Wednesday to a disappointing low on Saturday for the menâ??s basketball team this week. The women were handed their toughest challenges of the season while the track and field team continues to qualify student-athletes for the national meet.

The womenâ??s basketball team faced a pair of national powers this past week and at weekâ??s end understood exactly why Thomas More and Saint Vincent are the PAC cream of the crop. The Saints defeated Geneva 70-41 in Kentucky on Wednesday night before Saint Vincent handed Geneva its sixth straight home loss on Saturday 80-67. In the loss on Saturday night, Alyse Scarsella did her best to keep the Golden Tornadoes in the game. The junior forward posted season highs in both points (27) and rebounds (17) but it wasn't enough for Geneva to overcome a 16-0 Saint Vincent run in the final four minutes of the first half into the first four minutes of the second half. The women are 8-13 on the season and will host Chatham on Wednesday before heading to Grove City for a Saturday matinee.

It was truly a case of a game of inches for Richard Colick and the menâ??s basketball team on Wednesday night. Colickâ??s last second shot against Thomas More was barely off his finger tips when the buzzer sounded but it found the bottom of the net and Geneva defeated the Saints for the first time ever in Kentucky by the score of 65-63. Colick scored 21 of his game high 23 points in the second half while Bryan Hill added 16 points for the victors. Seemingly taking that momentum into Saturday, Geneva held a ten point lead over Saint Vincent at halftime before the roof caved in. The Bearcats outscored Geneva by 23 points in the final 20 minutes of a 79-66 loss that clinched a season sweep by Saint Vincent. It was only the second home loss of the season for Geneva as it finished the week with a 15-6 overall record. The Golden Tornadoes host Penn State Beaver on Monday night before traveling to Grove City on Saturday.

On Saturday, the indoor track and field team competed at Mount Union College in what turned out to be an all day affair. At nightâ??s end, three more student-athletes had qualified for the NCCAA national meet with Julia Urbanski taking home top billing. Urbanski set a new school record in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:25.66. Urbanski qualified for the NCCAA national meet along with teammates Stephen Polite (55 meter) and Matt Logan (Shot Put). A total of nine athletes have now qualified for the NCCAA national indoor meet which will be held at Indiana Wesleyan on February 19.
