The Geneva menâ??s soccer team is starting to make overtime a habit. While its success rate in the extra sessions have been good, the heart rate of head coach Gary Dunda may be a bit irregular. Meanwhile, the womenâ??s soccer team continues to be on the verge of its first PAC victory. The womenâ??s tennis team snuck above the .500 mark in conference play for the first time this season with a road victory on Saturday. Genevaâ??s volleyball team had a light week but took care of its business to stay close to the top of the PAC standings. While the cross country team was resting this weekend, the scoreboard at Waynesburgâ??s Wiley Stadium got quite a workout.

One year after playing the highest scoring game in school history, Geneva and Waynesburg lit up the scoreboard yet again. Unfortunately for the Golden Tornadoes, the final result was much the same. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 47-33 decision to the Yellow jackets despite a performance for the ages from Rocco Colavecchia. The quarterback/receiver accounted for four of Genevaâ??s five touchdowns. He threw for two scores while rushing for two more. On the day, he finished with 53 yards rushing, 160 yards passing and 41 yards receiving with three catches. Genevaâ??s banged up defense could not slow down a Waynesburg attack that generated 430 yards of total offense. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 1-5 overall including a 1-3 mark in conference play. Geneva will welcome long time rival Grove City to Reeves Field this Saturday at 7 p.m.

Genevaâ??s cross country teams took the weekend off to prepare for another big NCAA Division III meet this Saturday at Oberlin. Geneva is now less than three weeks away from the PAC Championships to be held at Westminster College on October 29.

Genevaâ??s volleyball team played just once last week but took care of business with a 3-1 victory over Thiel. After spotting the Tomcats a 1-0 lead, the Golden Tornadoes rallied back to take the next three games. In game three, Geneva was forced to overcome a 10-1 deficit and in game four came back from down 9-3. Ashley Davis led the offense with 18 kills while Kristland McCracken, Rachel Kuegler and Maggie Bowersox each came away with 12 kills and four blocks. The Golden Tornadoes have won seven of their last eight matches and are sitting with an overall mark of 14-7 including a 9-1 record in the PAC which is good enough for a first place tie with Bethany.

The Geneva tennis team is certainly not making its head coach Mandee Craft relax during matches. The Golden Tornadoes are making 5-4 victories a routine occurrence in 2011 after once again tallying a 5-4 decision over Waynesburg on Saturday. Brittany Kress was the last singles match on the court with the match tied at 4-4. Kress won her match in straight sets as the Golden Tornadoes pushed above the .500 mark in conference play for the first time all season with a record of 4-3. Overall, Geneva is 4-6 on the season. Kara Zimmerman and Julie Kline each won singles and doubles matches on Saturday to help Geneva get past Waynesburg. Tennis will play just once in the upcoming week with a match at W & J.

The Geneva womenâ??s soccer team has dropped three straight and six of its last seven matches. The Golden Tornadoes have come close to picking up their first PAC victory but have come up short each time. Most recently, Geneva dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Westminster on Saturday. Risa Tillman tied the game with her second goal of the season in the first half, but the Titans found the net just seconds before the end of the first overtime session. The loss dropped Geneva to 4-8-1 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Golden Tornadoes will host Bethany on Wednesday before heading to Thomas More next Saturday afternoon.

The cardiac kids struck again on Saturday with their second overtime win in the last three matches. John Shipley scored his first two goals of the season including the game winner in the first overtime session of a 3-2 Geneva victory over Westminster. In the only other match of the week, the Golden Tornadoes didnâ??t have to sweat nearly as much in a 5-0 victory over Saint Vincent that featured a two goal performance from Josh Mann. Geneva is 9-3-1 overall and sits atop the PAC standings with a perfect 3-0 record.
