For just the second time this season, the Geneva College menâ??s basketball team managed to come up with a conference road victory on Saturday. The men split a pair of games last week that left them in sole possession of fifth place in the PAC. The womenâ??s team dropped a pair of conference games and is anticipating a showdown with Grove City this week that could very well determine the eighth and final play-off spot in the conference tournament.

Following a 71-54 loss to second place Bethany at home on Wednesday night, the Geneva menâ??s team found itself in desperate need of a victory. The Golden Tornadoes got what they wanted on Saturday afternoon at Waynesburg with a 70-58 victory over the Yellow Jackets. Matt Lorello led the scoring with 19 points as he continued to sizzle from the field. Leading the conference in field goal percentage, Lorello was 11-13 from the field in the two games combined last week. Keynon Jackson continues to give Geneva a lift as he posted his first double-double of the season with 13 points and ten rebounds in the victory at Waynesburg. The Golden Tornadoes are 5-14 overall and 4-7 in the PAC. That conference mark is good enough to hold a one-game advantage over a pair of schools for fifth place in the standings with just five conference games remaining.

The womenâ??s basketball team has dropped six consecutive games and sits at 3-16 overall and 2-10 in the conference. The Golden Tornadoes still have an opportunity to reach the eight-team PAC post-season tournament with a late season surge. They are just one game behind Grove City for that eighth place spot as they welcome the Wolverines to Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday night. Last week, Geneva dropped conference games to Bethany and Waynesburg despite double digit scoring efforts from Beth DeLuca and Samantha Fisher. The Golden Tornadoes have six conference games remaining on the regular season schedule including Grove City and Chatham this week.

Geneva will host long time rival Grove City on Wednesday night with the womenâ??s game starting at 5:30 pm and the menâ??s game at 7:30 pm. We are asking all students to come out an support the Golden Tornadoes for â??WHITE OUT NIGHTâ??. Wear your white and come support the Golden Tornadoes as they take on Grove City College in an important conference doubleheader. We will also be recognizing academic and athletic excellence from this past fall prior to the menâ??s game. PAC honor roll recipients and both the menâ??s soccer team and womenâ??s volleyball team accomplished will be honored.
