Spring is in the air as we are just days away from spring break and the annual road trips to Florida for the baseball and softball teams. The winter athletic season ended last Tuesday as the Geneva men fell in the opening round of the Presidentsâ?? Athletic Conference tournament. The indoor track and field season ended at the NCCAA nationals and the outdoor season is just a couple of weeks away.

After waiting for four years because of the NCAA provisional phase, Genevaâ??s menâ??s basketball team finally got an opportunity to compete in the PAC tournament last week. The experience didnâ??t last long although the Golden Tornadoes gave third seed Thomas More a run for its money before a late surge by the Saints put the game out of reach. An 82-56 loss to Thomas More was not at all indicative of the closeness of the game. Geneva led the Saints with only 11 minutes remaining in the second half. Thomas More finished the game on a 26-2 run that proved to be the difference. Geneva finished the season with an overall record of 6-20 that included an emotional 100-85 victory over Westminster in the regular season finale.

The track teams had a good showing at the NCCAA national meet and will now set its sights on the outdoor season. Geneva opens the outdoor campaign on March 17th Muskingum College. The outdoor season will culminate with the PAC championships that will be hosted by Geneva College on April 27-28.

The baseball and softball seasons are set to open in the next few days. The baseball team will make a stop at Tennessee Temple on Saturday for a doubleheader before heading to Ft. Pierce, FL for the bulk of its spring schedule. The Golden Tornadoes will close out their Florida swing with a three-game series against Bethany College to open the 2012 PAC schedule in the sunshine state.

The softball team will be heading to Ft. Myers, FL on Friday and will open a 12-game schedule next Monday with games against Worcester Polytechnic and Kenyon on opening day.

The baseball and softball teams each open their home schedules on Friday, March 16th with doubleheaders against Houghton College.
