The spring athletic season is in full swing with the baseball and softball teams nearing completion of their Florida swing. While the baseball team has spent the last week in Ft. Pierce, FL, the softball team was basking in the sun in Ft. Myers, FL.

Geneva's baseball team opened the 2012 campaign with a doubleheader sweep over Martin Luther College. Caleb Kilgore and Tad Forsythe each picked up pitching victories on opening day with Mike Jeffreys getting saves in both ends of the doubleheader. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a doubleheader to Marywood before posting a split against Northwestern. Following a rain shortened loss to Delaware Valley, Geneva fell 4-3 to Bethany in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener. Geneva has posted an overall record of 3-5 through Saturday with Geneva getting set to play another doubleheader on Monda thy against Bethany before heading back to Beaver Falls. Senior Joel Gatti led the offensive charge for the week with a .409 batting average with a team best nine hits and five runs scored. Geneva will host Houghton College in a four-game series that begins with a doubleheader on Friday to open the home schedule.

Geneva's softball trip opened on a sour note with a pair losses last Monday. The Golden Tornadoes split three consecutive doubleheaders before winning a pair of games on Saturday to even its overall record at 5-5 through games on Saturday. Ashley Davis led the offense with a .471 batting average while senior Ashley Ritchey posted a .424 batting average in her first year seeing significant action. Geneva's .324 team batting average was helped by Martha Adams (.382), Christina Fuqua (.375), Michelle Barr (.364) and Julie DiLonardo (.357). While DiLonardo got things done at the plate, her main contributions came in the circle. DiLonardo won four games and posted a 1.62 ERA and 58 strikeouts. In her shut-out victory over Eastern Nazarene, DiLonardo set a school record with 15 strikeouts. Freshman Andrea Hinds picked up her first collegiate pitching victory in a game against Mitchell College. The Golden Tornadoes will play their final two games in Florida on Monday morning before preparing to host Houghton in a doubleheader on Friday.
