Genevaâ??s track and field team did a masterful job hosting the 2012 PAC championships over the weekend however the results on the track were not exactly what the Golden Tornadoes were looking for on the conference stage. The baseball team saw its season come to an end with another highlighted pitching performance from Mike Jeffreys. Finally, the softball team did what it had to do in the final week of the season to qualify for this weekâ??s PAC tournament in just its first year of eligibility.

Hundreds of track and field student-athletes descended on Geneva College and the Merriman Athletic Complex on Friday and Saturday for the PAC championships. Head coach Brian Yowler and Associate Head coach Jason Wargo orchestrated and amazing event with the help of countless others in representing Geneva College with the highest regard. While the event went smoothly, the results for Geneva College were not as anticipated. The menâ??s team finished ninth in the overall standings while the women performed better with a fifth place spot. One of the few highlights on the menâ??s side included a second place finish for freshman Josh Guiser in the 100 meter dash. Guiser finished just .03 seconds behind the eventual conference champion. Nick Edinger finished third in the 5000 meter event while Tyler French was also third in the discus.

In womenâ??s action, Geneva picked up a pair of first place finishes. Liz Michalak and Kathryn Regalado become Genevaâ??s first two PAC champions in track and field. Michalak won the high jump with a height of 5-0 ¼. Regalado took the top spot in the discus with a winning toss of 38-11 1/2 . Other top performances were turned in by Katherine Michalak, Shannon Rech, Emily Hoobler, Heidi Steiner and Alayna Merkle. The womenâ??s team posted 80 points for a fifth place finish.

Genevaâ??s baseball team ended the 2012 campaign with an overall record of 15-21 which included a 9-15 record in the PAC. Mike Jeffreys was once again on his game on the mound in helping Geneva to a 4-3 victory over Waynesburg in the first game of Saturdayâ??s doubleheader. Braving frigid temperatures and dodging snowflakes, the Golden Tornadoes managed a split against the Yellow Jackets. A group of seven seniors played their final games for Geneva on Saturday. The senior class of 2012 including Tad Forsythe, Mike Suluva, Joel Gatti, Adam Scheiderer, Mike Trn, Jon Bushmire and Noah Medich have each played significant role for the Golden Tornadoes over the past four years.

The Geneva softball team posted a 4-2 record in the final week of the regular season which was good enough to qualify for the PAC tournament coming up this weekend. The Golden Tornadoes concluded the regular season with an overall record of 27-17 including an 11-7 mark in the conference. Geneva opened the week with a sweep at W & J that was highlighted by a pair of three run homers from Christina Fuqua and Mackenzie Kemerer. Geneva split a doubleheader with Thomas More one day later that included a solo shot off of Ashley Davisâ?? bat. After dropping the first game 4-2 in extra innings, Geneva exploded for a 10-2 win over the Saints in the night cap. On Friday, Genevaâ??s offense went into shut-down mode but managed to take advantage of more outstanding Julie DiLonardo pitching with a 1-0 victory in game one against Chatham. DiLonardo tossed another gem in game two but Geneva fell 1-0. DiLonardo finished the regular season with 23 victories, and ERA of 1.67 and an incredible 251 strikeouts. The Golden Tornadoes open post-season play on Thursday against top seed and host Saint Vincent College in the four-team, double elimination tournament.
