Head football coach Geno DeMarco was not necessarily looking for two wins on Saturday but the 20th year head coach settled for one as the Golden Tornadoes beat Saint Vincent before Geneva was able to beat itself. On the soccer field, Geneva got a small piece of revenge on Saturday against a Thomas More team that beat them in the 2011 PAC finals. The womenâ??s team saw its defensive scoreless streak come to an end against Thomas More while the womenâ??s volleyball team posted a 2-1 week but dropped its second match of the season to Thiel College. In what turned out to be perfect running conditions, the menâ??s and womenâ??s cross country teams go their erasers out yet again and rewrote the Geneva record books. The tennis team ended its regular season and will now look toward the PAC Championships next week.

Genevaâ??s football team was in desperate need of a victory and found a way to sneak one at despite four turnovers against Saint Vincent. Rocco Colavecchia scored two more touchdowns giving him ten scores in the last three weeks while also throwing for a touchdown. Bryan Visingardi had a perfect right foot on Saturday with three field goals and a perfect 3-3 day on PATâ??s. The Golden Tornadoes racked up 422 yards of total offense against the Bearcats to move to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Geneva has an opportunity to host first place and undefeated Waynesburg on homecoming Saturday this weekend.

If the week that was Genevaâ??s menâ??s soccer doesnâ??t tell you all you need to know about how crazy sports are then nothing will. The Golden Tornadoes went on the road last Tuesday and were upset 3-2 against Saint Vincent in what may have been the worst performance of the season. Four days later, Geneva returned home and handed first place and defending PAC champion Thomas More a 1-0 loss. Bryan Butler posted the shut-out with Keenan Barr scoring the only goal of the match. With the victory, Geneva moved to 7-5-2 overall and more importantly improved to 3-1-1 for a tie for first place with Westminster. A big week for Geneva begins with a road match at Waynesburg and concludes at home on Saturday against Waynesburg.

In womenâ??s soccer, Geneva moved its winnings and shut-out streak to three games following a 3-0 victory at Bethany on Wednesday. Caroline Wright scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Golden Tornadoes were rolling behind freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullenâ??s sixth shut-out of the season. All of those streaks were halted on Saturday as the monster that is Thomas More womenâ??s soccer turned a 1-0 halftime lead into a 5-0 final against the Golden Tornadoes. Thomas More remained unbeaten in conference play with only one loss all season overall. As for Geneva, the Golden Tornadoes sit with a 7-6-1 overall record that includes a 3-2 mark in the league. The Golden Tornadoes embark on a make or break week with matches against Waynesburg and Grove City that will go a long way in determining their post-season fate.

Genevaâ??s tennis team concluded its regular season last Monday with an anti-climatic 9-0 loss to undefeated Westminster College. The Golden Tornadoes ended their season with an overall record of 8-6 and a conference record of 5-4, with both of those win totals being an improvement for 2011. The Golden Tornadoes will now prepare for the PAC Championships, which will be held in Erie on October 19-20.

Genevaâ??s volleyball team enjoyed a 2-1 week but the end of the week was far from enjoyable. After posting victories against Chatham and Waynesburg, the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 3-0 decision to a Thiel College team that has now swept the season series. After dropping just one conference match a year ago, the Golden Tornadoes are looking for that winning recipe in 2012. Geneva still sits with an impressive 18-8 overall record and a 9-4 record in the PAC. The Golden Tornadoes sit in fifth place in the conference standings and will work to improve their post-season seedings throughout the last two weeks of the regular season. This week, Geneva will travel to Westminster on Wednesday and then head south to first place Thomas More on Friday night.

The conditions could not have been more favorable for running on Saturday at the Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble. With a fast track, Genevaâ??s top runners took full advantage on Saturday and once again took a pencil to the Geneva record books. Nick Edinger finished 11th overall in the menâ??s 8K with all ten runners in front of him posting personal best times. Edinger was no exception as he shattered his own cross country school record with a new record time of 24:23, which was 1:23 faster than the old mark.

Each of Genevaâ??s top five women ran personal best times with Sarah-Noel Meek and Alayna Merkle becoming just the second and third women to post a sub-23 minute race. Meek became the fastest female in school history with her sizzling time of 22:05. Emily Hoobler and Shannon Rech each posted their first ever sub-24 minute races while Anna Kluitenberg ran a personal best time by over one minute. The five women averaged a time of 23:16, which was also the fastest race in school history. Seemingly the cross country teams are set for the PAC Championships which will take place on October 27th.

Finally, donâ??t be stunned to walk into Metheny Fieldhouse and find bouncing basketballs. The menâ??s and womenâ??s basketball teams opened practice for the 2012-13 season on Monday. Mark your calendars for Midnight Madness on Wednesday, October 31
