SMB_2403_lighting_480.jpgIt was a long time in coming but well worth the wait. The Geneva College menâ??s basketball team picked up its first victory of the 2012-13 season on Saturday night with a PAC decision over Waynesburg University by the score of 68-62. Meanwhile, the Geneva women were not so fortunate as they watched a ten point first half lead disappear in a 59-41 loss to Waynesburg that kept the Golden Tornadoes winless on the season.

The Geneva men held off Waynesburg on Saturday night move its record to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the six-point decision over the Yellow Jackets. Matt Lorello led the offense with 16 points while Jordan Harbison continued his hot shooting by knocking down 4-5 from three-point range to remain one of the top long range shooters in the conference. Tyler Damazo came off the bench and provided ten points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes of action. The Golden Tornadoes opened the week with road losses at Bethany and Division I Youngstown State. In the loss to YSU, Zac Rorick caught fire and made four three-pointers to lead Geneva with 14 points in the loss. With its first victory of the season, Genevaâ??s men will earn three weeks off before getting back to action at the Wooster College Tournament on December 28-29.

In womenâ??s action, Geneva seemingly had things in control on Saturday night with a double digit lead against Waynesburg. The Golden Tornadoes only managed two field goals in the final 14 minutes of the game and dropped an 18-point decision to the Yellow Jackets. The loss dropped Geneva to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the PAC after also losing to Bethany last Wednesday night. Leah Prisuta scored the first ten points of the game against Waynesburg and finished with 14 in the loss. For the season, Prisuta leads Geneva with 10.8 points per game while is also listed about the conference leaders with 15 blocks on the season. The Golden Tornadoes will take another shot at picking up their first victory of the season on Saturday when head coach Lori Wynn welcomes her alma mater, Houghton College, to Metheny Fieldhouse for a 2 pm tip-off.
