Records were falling alongside the temperature last week as the Geneva College track and field team put on an impressive display at the PAC North Quad Meet on College Hill. The baseball team swept away one of its long time rivals while the softball team split six conference games to remain in the thick of the PAC race.

In Genevaâ??s lone home track meet of the season, the Golden Tornadoes certainly didnâ??t disappoint the home crowd. The highlight of the evening was the record breaking performance of the menâ??s 4 x 100 relay team. Consisting of Ryan White, Aaron Marga, Ed Schuster and Josh Guiser, Geneva turned in a first place and school record breaking time of 42.85. For Guiser, it was the second top prize of the day as he ran ahead of the field in the 100 meter dash with a finishing time of 11.38. Ironically, each of Genevaâ??s 4 x 100 members finished one through four in the 100 meter event. In the 400 meter race, Jacob Mellinger and Ryan White finished first and second respectively. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Nate Mansor managed to qualify for the NCCAA national meet with Nick Edinger did what he does best in his final home meet. Edinger took first place in the 800 and 1500 meter events to close out a spectacular home career. Tyler French won the discus event and finished second in the shot put while Jordan Rupert took home second place in the javelin.

Katherine Michalak highlighted a solid day for Genevaâ??s women with a first place finish in the shot put and a fifth place spot in the discus. Michalak broke her own school record in the shot put with a distance of 40-07.5. Jamie Mahan broke personal records in both the 100 and 200 meter race while Lydia Steele managed to qualify for the NCCAA meet in the javelin.

Genevaâ??s baseball week started on a sour note but ended with an impressive performance against its biggest rival. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a single game to Grove City to open the week but managed to turn things around last Thursday with a doubleheader sweep at Westminster. Caleb Kilgore and Mike Jeffreys picked up victories on the mound with Jeffreys firing a five-hitter to go along with nine strikeouts. Jeffreys, Shane Wingard and Andy Santana each had a pair of hits in the 9-3 victory over the Titans. With still two weeks left in the regular season, Geneva has an overall record of 12-17 to go along with a 7-10 mark in the PAC.

The Geneva softball team has been up and down in the last couple of weeks. After dropping a non-conference doubleheader to Baldwin-Wallace, the Golden Tornadoes split conference doubleheaders with Westminster, Bethany and Washington & Jefferson. Geneva has a 16-14 overall mark including a 10-4 record in conference play. With four conference games remaining this week, Geneva is currently tied for second place in the conference and is in position to finish in the top four and qualify for the PAC tournament next week. Samantha Johnson picked up three victories this past week and now has 12 wins on the season. On Saturday, Geneva split a doubleheader with Washington & Jefferson with Ashley Davis and Christina Fuqua each launching home runs. Davis was 3 for 4 in Genevaâ??s 9-4 victory over the Presidents. Geneva will head to Thomas More for a PAC showdown on Wednesday before closing out the conference schedule at Chatham on Saturday.
