It wasnâ??t even fatherâ??s day and the ties were being thrown around like crazy. Both soccer teams endured ties this past week while the football team had its tie ripped up at Thiel in an overtime loss to the Tomcats. The volleyball team wasnâ??t waiting around for its tie in three conference victories while the tennis team again enjoyed a solid week on the court. As for cross country team, it enjoyed a quiet weekend away from the course.

It was another heartbreaking setback for the Geneva football team on Saturday. After spotting Thiel a 14-0 halftime lead, the Golden Tornadoes stormed out of the locker room with 14 third quarter points to tie things up. Rocco Colavecchia hit Corey Oâ??Patchen for a touchdown prior to Colavecchia grabbing a touchdown pass of his own from Zack Hayward. Neither team could find the deciding score in regulation although Geneva did miss a field goal late in the game that would have given it the lead. A fluke touchdown in overtime on a botched field goal snap and touchdown pass by the Thiel placekicker proved to be the difference. Geneva fell to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy their only bye week of the season to prepare for the latest home opener in school history on September 29th when they welcome defending PAC champion Thomas More to Reeves Field.

Freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen has not allowed a goal in 255 minutes. The first year keeper posted back to back shut-outs this week in a 2-0 win at LaRoche and a 0-0 tie against Carlow. McMullen made a season best 13 saves to preserve the tie against the Celtics. Heidi Mann, who became the first player in school history to score at least one goal in the first four games of her career, was finally kept off the scoreboard against Carlow. On Monday, Mann scored her fifth goal of the season and got help from Cindy George, who scored the first Geneva goal of the year by someone not named Heidi Mann. Geneva has an overall record of 2-2-1 on the season and gets set for a three-match week beginning at Franciscan this afternoon.

The menâ??s soccer team was 1-1-1 this past week with a victory against LaRoche, a loss to eighth ranked CMU and a 1-1 tie on Saturday against Lycoming. It was Daniel Cox to the rescue on Saturday as the freshman notched his first career goal to tie the game in the second half. In the victory over LaRoche, Geneva got goals from David Gerlach, Jeb Nash, Tyler Kiser and Max Flick. Geneva has an overall record of 3-3-1 heading into the new week that features road matches at Franciscan and national powerhouse Messiah.

Tennis head coach Mandee Craft has her team quietly off to a very good start in 2012. The Golden Tornadoes went 2-1 this past week including victories over Thiel and Marietta. Sandwiched between those victories was a loss to Grove City. By the way, Grove City has won 25 consecutive PAC titles in womenâ??s tennis. Despite that domination, Geneva was able to take two matches against the Wolverines in a 7-2 loss. Alison Beattie and Christine Bullock remain unbeaten at 4-0 in singles play this year. Beattie and Bullock each won a pair of matches this week. In doubles action, the duo of Brittany Kress and Courtney Light are 5-0 this season. That tandem posted a perfect 3-0 mark this past week. The comeback of the week was turned in by freshman Samantha Jensen in the victory at Marietta. Down 1-6, 2-5, Jensen rallied to win the second set 7-5 before taking the tiebreaker 10-3 for her first collegiate victory. The Golden Tornadoes are 4-2 overall including a 2-1 mark in the PAC.

Neither cross country team competed this week but both will be back in action this coming Saturday when they travel to Saint Vincent College for a 10 am meet. The womenâ??s team will be seeking its third consecutive victory to start the year while the menâ??s team will be chomping at the bit to get a repeat performance of its opening weekend victory at Westminster.

Genevaâ??s volleyball team was busy early in the week but enjoyed a rare weekend off the court. On Tuesday, Geneva picked up victories at Chatham against the host Cougars and Washington & Jefferson. One day later, the Golden Tornadoes finally played their home opener and came away with a 3-0 victory over Waynesburg to remain perfect in conference play. Ashley Davis posted 16 kills in the victory over the Yellow Jackets as Geneva moved to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. It took Geneva four sets to defeat W & J with Maggie Bowersox leading the offense with 16 kills. Deanna Briody, who was named the PAC player of the week last week, finished the match with 46 assists, 20 digs and five service aces. Geneva will play its most challenging week of the season with road matches against Mount Union, Bethany and Thiel.
