One thing that can be said for the Geneva College softball team is that it certainly proved it belonged with some of the best teams in the country. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a pair of games at the Alma, MI regional last week but not before giving some of the top teams in the region a run for their money. Coming into play as the eighth seed, Geneva shook top seed Trine University before dropping a 6-5 decision in round one. Twenty-four hours later, the Golden Tornadoes could not capitalize on several offensive chances and suffered a 3-2 loss to John Carrol in the first elimination game of the tournament. Geneva finished the season with an overall record of 30-19 while capturing its first PAC title. Julie DiLonardo was named PAC player of the year and teammates Christina Fuqua and Martha Adams were also first team selections with Ashley Davis and Lori Deem claiming second team honors.

Nick Edinger was not satisfied with the team portion of the track and field season ending. He decided to do a little more running at the Allegheny College Gator Invite last week. The extra work paid off in a big way as Edinger smashed his personal best time in the 5000 meter event by a staggering .23 seconds. He came within one second of becoming the first Geneva runner to break the 15:00 minute barrier in the 5K. Edinger finished fifth overall at the meet with a time of 15:00.70. Liz Michalak still has some work to do for the Golden Tornadoes. She will be competing in the Ohio Wesleyan heptathlon today and tomorrow to try to improve upon her numbers to assure qualification in the NCAA national track and field meet.
