Program Spotlight

There are six programs in the Bible, Ministry, and Philosophy Department (BMaP): aviation missions, biblical studies, missions, philosophy, pre-seminary, and student ministry. Now some of these may sound similar, so if you are considering one of these programs, here is what makes each of the programs distinct.

Aviation Missions: This program will probably appear as the most distinctive within this department. Students in this program take ministry courses with Geneva while also taking aviation courses with the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC). By choosing this program students are equipped to work in both fields, and open themselves up to many more career opportunities because of this dual qualification.

Biblical Studies: Students in the program dive deep into the history of Christianity and prominent theological perspectives. Students in this major focus primarily on the intellectual side of ministry, whereas missions majors lean into the practical side of ministry. This program pushes students to think deeply on the meaning of Scripture and how it has been understood throughout history.

Missions: While biblical studies is the more intellectual major, the missions major focuses on the practical side of ministry. Students in this program are equipped to share the Gospel to people of any demographic and anywhere in the world. Missions majors learn how to engage with people in their current context, and how to make the message of the Gospel accessible and real.

Philosophy: Students that choose to major in philosophy learn from both Christian and secular philosophers throughout the ages. As students learn from predominant philosophers, they are challenged to enter into philosophical discourse and consider the implications of every theory. This program challenges students to think deeply and meaningfully so that they can engage faithfully in their community.

Pre-Seminary: Unsurprisingly by the title, this major is designed to prepare students to continue their education in seminary. This program gives students a holistic education to prepare them for a future of service. While this program is similar to the biblical studies program, there is a deeper focus on biblical languages and bigger picture ideas.

Student Ministry: Similarly to a missions major, this program is designed to equip students for practical ministry. However, the main difference is that the student ministry program focuses particularly on preparing students to minister to young people. Students in this program are prepared to teach and guide children, teenagers, and young adults.

Each program in the BMaP department teaches students about the Bible and equips them to serve in their church and community. However, each program has a unique function as evident by their descriptions. All of these programs except for pre-seminary are also offered as minors. Regardless of the program you choose, you will learn from experienced faculty who are dedicated to equipping you with a solid biblical foundation for whatever vocation you may be called to.
