Don't Hate on Valentine's Day... Create!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!! While many people say they “hate” this holiday or that it is only a commercial holiday created for sales purposes, it can also be a wonderful time to show those around you how much you care for them.  God loved us so much that he sent his son to die for us. 1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  So remember this before you complain about Valentine’s Day: there is never a bad time to show Christ’s love.  As the day approaches, here are a few ideas for some cute cards and gifts you can quickly create to share with your friends.

#1 Tick Tack Toe your way right into my heart:

All this valentine requires is a red marker, pencil, or even crayon.  Draw a tick tack toe board and draw three hearts in a row.   Add “you won my heart” to the card, maybe a little note, and there you have it, a homemade, cute way to show your friends how much you love them.

#2 Text-a-Valentine

Sometimes in life we are required to be apart from our loved ones on special days, but don’t worry, thanks to modern technology, there is a way to easily show those far from you just how much you care.  Spend a couple minutes searching for some funny Valentines gifs and puns.  Throughout the day, at random times, send that special someone a cute little message to make them smile.  This is an inexpensive cute way to share the love all day.

#3 Paper Flowers

It’s an oldie but a goody!  Paper flowers are an inexpensive, thoughtful way to show someone you love them. There are also many ways to make these little pieces of art, and they range in difficulty levels, so almost everyone can make one. They can be created with many different types of paper. They can be incredibly colorful, or you can do a black and white theme.Regardless of the color or style, they will brighten up any room. Some paper flowers take as little as 5 minutes to make, so they can be a quick valentine. This DIY valentine can be both the gift and the card. Write a cute little note on these creations to leave a lasting impression on your loved one.

#4 Candy Gram

Candy Grams are a clever and tasty way to share the love on Valentine’s Day. Many girls proclaim that all they want for this Hallmark holiday is a sweet treat, but why not make it a little more meaningful with a silly saying or rhyme? There are many places you can find unique and colorful add-ons to any candy. Even better, why not add the candy right into the letter! “Please don’t snicker (snickers bar) but I’m crazy for you baby (baby Ruth).” These are fun ways to not only share some sugary fun, but also share a little wit, too.

#5 Candy Alternative Valentines

In modern culture, people are very concerned about health. One way to combat the Valentine’s Day sugar rush is to try something a little different. A banana can be a sweet and healthy way to give someone a little gift on Valentine’s Day. Plus bananas open up many pun opportunities, such as “I’m Bananas for You Valentine.” Also, one can never have too many socks, so pick out a cozy Valentine’s themed pair and warm up your friends with these fuzzy surprises. A clever saying like, “You Knock My Socks Off” adds to the novelty of these sensible gifts.

The Bible says in 1 John 4:19, “We love because he first loved us.” So, before you jump on the bandwagon of hating Valentine’s Day, remember as Christians, we are called to love others. This holiday gives us the opportunity to manifest and celebrate this love. Seize the day and do something to show those in your life the love of Christ. These are simple, inexpensive, novel ways to share the love with people. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
