About the McCartney Society
In the fall of 2019, a multigenerational group of alumni in the Pittsburgh area launched a book study to provide a regular time of intellectual engagement, Christian fellowship, and devoted prayer for the mission and needs of Geneva College. The group adopted the name “The McCartney Society” in honor of Presbyterian minister Clarence Macartney, a bold defender of the orthodox Christian faith in the early years of the 20th century and the namesake of Geneva College’s McCartney Library.
The concept of the McCartney Society is simple: alumni and friends of Geneva College gathering to discuss great works of literature in order to cultivate practical wisdom for the Christian life. The McCartney Society seeks to continue the conversations begun in Geneva’s Humanities core curriculum, providing edification and fellowship for graduates and friends of the college as they navigate their callings in the marketplace, the academy, and the church.
