Freshman Experience

Summer Preview

Summer Preview is for incoming first-year students who are accepted and planning to attend Geneva College. And because they play an important role in helping students transition to college, we also encourage parents to attend. This event is designed to give admitted students deeper insight into student life, as they meet with academic advisors, complete assessment testing and connect with future classmates. Parents will have the opportunity to learn more about the integration of faith and learning, attend sessions with faculty, participate in a Q&A session hosted by Student Development, learn more about Student Financial Services, and connect with other parents.

Welcome Week

By attending Welcome Week, you will learn about the support services available to help you succeed academically, adjust to collegiate life, and meet new friends. During orientation, you will meet staff, faculty, and new other new students who are excited about your success and presence at Geneva College.

As you enter Geneva know that we as staff and faculty are here to walk with you through your new and exciting journey and experience. We are all looking forward to meeting and supporting you through your time in college.

Learning & Transitions or more commonly referred to as "L&T", a course during your first semester designed to help you thrive at Geneva College.

The primary purpose of Learning and Transitions is to help students thrive at college. Geneva College helps you succeed by focusing on the characteristics responsive to transformation: promoting higher levels of academic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal performance within the college environment. In order to accomplish this goal, students will develop a valuable perspective of college while con-currently developing skills useful for navigating college life. In effect, this course explores the topic of college as its primary subject, in order to help students thrive in this newly discovered context. As we frame the college experience for students, we sincerely hope that the Learning and Transitions course will enhance and enrich students’ overall learning experience at Geneva—both in and out of the classroom.

The Beta program is intended to help students discover more of their leadership potential, expand their leadership knowledge, and gain a better understanding of how to engage their leadership potential on Geneva′s campus both now and in the future. The program covers a variety of topics and engages in various activities that are relevant to developing college students as servant leaders – empowered to serve on campus, in the church, and in the community.

Beta is a voluntary first year leadership program designed to explore leadership and how it pertains to Geneva′s students, both at college and beyond. From theory to practice, the Beta program provides you with the opportunity to deepen your thinking, foster your growth and find a community of friends who together live out the call to lead.

All incoming students hoping to get involved in the Geneva College community are encouraged to join. Contact the program at
