HEERF III

HEERF III Grant Criteria (Fall '21)

10/20/2021

Explanation of American Rescue Plan (ARP) HEERF III Grant (Fall '21)

The College distributed HEERF III funds in the form of emergency financial aid grants to eligible students enrolled in Fall 2021 semester including traditional undergraduate, adult, online, and graduate students, including students attending the Pittsburgh Campus.  Early college (pre-college) students were excluded from receiving HEERF III funds.

The College established eligibility based on each student's Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as listed on their FAFSA.  The College created bands of eligibility based on the student’s EFC as follows:

Band Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Range Amount of Grant
A 0 to 3,000 $1,300.00
B 3,001 to 6,500 $1,200.00
C 6,501 to 10,500 $1,100.00
D 10,501 to 17,000 $900.00
E 17,001 to 20,000 $800.00
F Above $20,000 $0.00
G Undetermined as no FAFSA was filed $0.00

A graduate student taking 6 or more credits in the Fall 2021 semester is considered full-time.  An undergraduate student taking 12 or more credits in the Fall 2021 semester is considered full-time.  Part-time students will receive a prorated portion of the above amount based on the number of credits taken in the Fall 2021 semester in relation to number of credits necessary for full-time status.

Use of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants

Students were informed “these emergency financial aid grants are to be used to help cover expenses for any component of a student’s cost of attendance and emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus (such as tuition, food, housing, health care - including mental health, and childcare).”

Explanation to Establish Need-based Criteria

Band A Reasoning:  EFC of $3,000 or less.  These are the neediest students at Geneva with very little financial resources.

Band B Reasoning: EFC between 3,001 and 6,500.  These are students that have a small EFC but still have very little resources from the family.

Band C Reasoning: The College established a 3rd band of EFC between $6,501 and $10,500 as it relates to a student’s wherewithal to pay for College (EFC) and PHEAA grant eligibility.

Band D Reasoning: The College established a 4th band of EFC between $10,501 and $17,000 as it relates to a student’s wherewithal to pay for College (EFC) and PHEAA grant eligibility.

Band E Reasoning:  The College established a 5th band of EFC between $17,001 and $20,000 where students receive a smaller grant and students have a modest level of family support.

Band F Reasoning:  These students were not allocated any emergency financial aid grants under HEERF III due to their higher levels of EFC.

Band G Reasoning:  These students did not complete a FAFSA, so the College was unable to determine their EFC.  Therefore, they were not allocated any emergency financial aid grants under HEERF III.
