Grace Notes

Grace Notes group singing in John White Chapel, wearing jeans and black shirts.

The oldest of the small groups within The Genevans are the Grace Notes, a women′s sextet organized in the 1950s. Since the original members all lived in McKee Hall, and in a bow to Geneva′s Scottish heritage, they chose the name "McKee Lassies." Mrs. Ruth Douds, voice instructor, was their director and accompanist. The group suspended operations after Mrs. Douds retired in the mid‑1970s. The group was resuscitated in 1982 by Louise Copeland, a former Lassie who returned as instructor in voice, and since the members no longer came from the same dormitory, they chose the name "The Grace Notes." It consists of either six or nine women, and sings show tunes and other "classic" popular music. In addition to Genevans concerts, this group performs frequently for civic functions, women′s luncheons, and other community events.
