Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s volleyball team had to wait an extra day to begin a very important weekend of action in the AMC North. After the Golden Tornadoes were forced to postponed their match with Daemen on Friday because of bad weather in New York, Geneva played a pair of key AMC North matches and it turned out to be well worth the wait. Geneva defeated Houghton College 3-2 early in the day and closed out the night with a 3-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan. The sweep helped Geneva improve its overall record to 10-16, including a 6-3 record in the AMC North.
In the victory over Houghton, Marisa Barickman slammed down 27 kills and added four aces and a pair of blocks. Teammate Megan Summers had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 blocks. Allison Seldomridge, who played against her younger sister from Houghton, led the way with 45 digs. Senior Caryn Azure chipped in with 65 assists in the victory.
In the nightcap victory over Roberts Wesleyan, Geneva won three straight, but it certainly wasn′t easy. Geneva outscored Roberts Wesleyan by just six points by winning all three games by two points each. Barickman again led the offense with 21 additional kills, which made for a total of 48 kills on the day. Summers had seven kills and four blocks, while Allison Seldomridge had 26 digs and three service aces.
