Beaver Falls, PA – Geneva′s volleyball team took its first step toward the school′s first ever AMC divisional title on Thursday night. The Golden Tornadoes defeated Daemen College 3-0 to move to 9-3 in the AMC North and into sole possession of second place in the conference. With just two matches within the conference remaining, Geneva is just one game in the loss column behind Notre Dame College. Notre Dame, however, still has seven matches remaining in the conference.

On Thursday night, the Golden Tornadoes battled with Daemen in the first game before sneaking past with a 32-30 victory. Games two and three were not nearly as challenging as Geneva cruised to 11 and 10 point victories respectively for the 3-0 shutout victory.

Individually, Geneva′s dynamic duo at the net, were at it again on Thursday. Marisa Barickman and Megan Summers combined for 25 kills to pace the offense. Summers, who is still among the conference in leaders in blocks, led Geneva with eight put-backs in the victory. Summers also contributed with three service aces.

Caryn Azure continued her good work with 36 assists and a team best 12 digs. Michelle Zimmovan chipped in with six kills off the bench in just ten attempts.

Geneva will enjoy six days off before back to back conference matches next week to end the regular season and ultimately decide Geneva′s play-off fate. The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Ursuline next Wednesday before closing out the regular season with a home match against Carlow University next Thursday. The Golden Tornadoes will begin tournament play on November 10-11 at the American Mideast Conference Tournament, which Geneva would host if it pulls out the conference title.
