Home Sweet Home, McCracken Leads Geneva Past Waynesburg
Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s men′s soccer team won for the second straight game on its home turf. The Golden Tornadoes got past Waynesburg College by the score of 3-1 and in the process evened its record at home to 2-2-2 in 2006. Overall, Geneva improved to 2-9-3 for the season, while Waynesburg dropped to 4-10.
Waynesburg opened the scoring with a tally in the third minute of the game, but it didn′t take long for Geneva to answer. Neville Lebga scored his second goal of the season after getting past the goalkeeper and feeding the ball into the open net. H.P. McCracken, who led Geneva in scoring last year but didn′t get his first goal of the season until last Saturday, capitalized on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. McCracken struck for his third goal of the season in the 41st minute to give Geneva some insurance that it wouldn′t need.
Neither team could find the net in the final 45 minutes and the Golden Tornadoes prevailed for their second victory of the season. Sam McCracken, who has played every minute in goal for Geneva, picked up the victory and made four saves in the process. Geneva out shot Waynesburg 13-5 in the match.
The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy a weekend off, but will be back on the field next Tuesday when they travel to Malone. Geneva, which is 0-2-1 in the AMC North, will play its next conference match on October 21st at Roberts Wesleyan.
