Griffin Grief, Geneva Falls to Seton Hill
Beaver Falls, PA - Lack of consistency has clearly been the main obstacle for Geneva′s women′s volleyball team in 2006. Unable to put a win streak together longer than two games, Geneva was once again looking to win for the second straight match. However, the Golden Tornadoes ran into a solid Seton Hill team that took care of Geneva 3-0. The loss dropped Geneva to 8-11 overall, while Seton Hill jumped over the .500 mark at 10-9. Although the match had no bearing on the AMC North standings, the Golden Tornadoes were still trying to gain some momentum heading into a tough tournament at Clarion University on Friday.
Geneva and Seton Hill battled closely all night, but it was the runs of the Griffins in all three matches that proved to be the difference. Seton Hill put together runs of 6+ points in a row in each match. The Golden Tornadoes fell in three straight despite being within a point in games one and three, but ultimately falling 30-28.
Marisa Barickman, who was coming off a career best 31 kills and a school record of 7.75 kills/per game in Geneva′s victory over Ursuline, once again led the way for Geneva with 17 kills.
The Golden Tornadoes will have their hands full this weekend at Clarion University in matches solely against NCAA Division II competition on Friday and Saturday. Next week, Geneva will travel to W & J on Wednesday before returning home to play Daemen College on Friday night.
