Finally the Taste of Victory, Geneva′s Women End Slide at Carlow
Pittsburgh, PA - It had been almost six weeks since Geneva′s women′s soccer team had tasted victory. On Saturday, the sweetness of the win column finally returned to Geneva with a 4-0 victory at Carlow University. The Golden Tornadoes have struggled their way through a nine-game losing streak, including four straight shut-out losses. On Saturday, Geneva found its offense and dominated Carlow from start the finish. The victory moved Geneva′s overall record to 5-12-0, including a 3-4-0 record in the AMC North.
Jenna Witkowski notched a pair of goals and got Geneva off and running with first tally of the game just ten minutes into the contest. Amanda Munsch extended Geneva′s lead in the 36th minute when she scored off of a pass from senior Nichole Casper. Amanda Gessner gave Geneva a 3-0 lead with her goal in the 48th minute. Wikowski scored her second goal of the match with just six minutes remaining in regulation to give Geneva its 4-0 victory.
The Golden Tornadoes out shot Carlow 30-2, while Amanda Weaver and Katherine Bull combined for a shut-out, but it was Weaver who made the only save of the game for Geneva.
The Golden Tornadoes will close out the 2006 season on Tuesday when they travel to Cleveland, OH to take on Myers University.
