Post-Season Honors Flood In For Geneva′s Fall Teams
Beaver Falls, PA - As the end of the fall athletic season draws closer, the Golden Tornadoes have accepted a handful of post-season honors for men′s and women′s soccer and volleyball. The American Mideast Conference and the NCCAA handed out their all-conference and all-region honors and Geneva′s teams were very well represented.
Geneva′s women′s volleyball team opens its post-season play on Friday in Rochester, NY. The co-divisional champions from the AMC North gained much respect in 2006 as indicated by the All-Conference selections. Senior Caryn Azure (Butler, PA) was named the AMC North Setter of the year. Teammate Allison Seldomridge (Landisville, PA) was presented with the Libero of the Year award. Marisa Barickman (Guys Mills, PA) was also selected to the first team, while Megan Summers (Richardson, TX) received honorable mention consideration. Finally, Michelle Zimmovan (Pittsburgh, PA) was named to the All-AMC freshman team in her first season with the Golden Tornadoes. With a conference record of 11-3, Geneva tied Roberts Wesleyan for first place in the AMC North for its first ever AMC title.
In men′s soccer, senior H.P. McCracken (Beaver Falls, PA) was a first-team All-AMC selection, as well as receiving first team All-Regional consideration from the NCCAA. Seniors A.J. Tardio (West Mifflin, PA) and Will Godfrey (Freedom, PA) were both given honorable mention consideration in the American Mideast Conference. Geneva′s men′s team, under first year head coach Todd Beall, was also awarded the Fair-Play award from the conference.
On the women′s side, junior Nicole Beadling (Greensburg, PA) received top billing with an AMC second team All-Conference selection. Other Geneva players receiving honorable mention consideration included: Kelsey Anderson (Allison Park, PA), Nichole Casper (Glenshaw, PA), Lisa Drentkiewicz (McKees Rocks, PA), Amanda Weaver (Clearfield, PA) and Jenna Witkowski (Bellville, OH).
