Quick Rebound, Geneva Puts Daemen Loss Behind and Cruises Past Houghton

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s women′s basketball team had to do something Friday night that it hadn′t needed to do in six weeks. Geneva had to come back after losing a basketball game to Daemen on Tuesday night. The Golden Tornadoes saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday, but you would have never guessed it by the performance on Friday. Geneva cruised past Houghton College 74-45 to improve to 12-3 overall, including a 5-1 record in the AMC North.

Geneva led by as many as 34 points in the game and was never seriously threatened all night long. After opening a 20-point lead at halftime and allowing just seven field goals in the first 20 minutes, the Golden Tornadoes extended that advantage in the second half.

Both teams were no where close to crisp in a game that featured 47 combined turnovers, Geneva and Houghton matched up in a messy contest. Although it wasn′t pretty, Geneva will certainly take the victory to continue to stay in second place in the AMC North.

Allyson Clarke was close to perfect with a 9-10 shooting night from the field to lead all scorers with 18 points. Renee Rawding chipped in with 17 points and Lauren Uranker added 11 in the victory. Houghton got 13 points from Leah French in the loss.

Geneva will welcome Roberts Wesleyan to Metheny Fieldhouse for a Saturday matinee tomorrow afternoon.
