The Golden Tornadoes turned up the defense on Saturday night on their way to a 56-34 victory over Tiffin University. As a result of the victory, Geneva has qualified for its first ever trip to the championship game and in the process set a new school record for its 23rd victory of the season. Geneva improved to 23-4 for the season, while Tiffin ended its season at 14-15.\n            Geneva′s opponent on Tuesday night will be Shawnee State after the Bears picked up a road victory at Notre Dame College on Saturday night.\n            Geneva jumped out to a 14-5 lead eight minutes into the game on a Jackie Anthony three-point field goal. In a game that Geneva led throughout the night, the Dragons got within just six points in the first half and could get no closer.\n            “We have played hard on the defensive end of the floor all year,” said head coach Ron Galbreath. “We made a great effort of trying to shut down their perimeter game and our guards were outstanding all night.” Galbreath′s team entered the game in the top five in the NAIA in team defense. His squad certainly didn′t hurt that spot by allowing just 13 field goals on Saturday night.\n            Jackie Anthony and Renee Rawding each scored 14 points in the victory, while Allyson Clarke scored nine points and pulled down a team best nine rebounds. “Our offense certainly didn′t click on all cylinders for most of the night, but we scored when we had to and our defense carried us for 40 minutes.”\n            Geneva will host the AMC championship on Tuesday night when Shawnee State University comes calling to Metheny Fieldhouse for a 7:30 pm tip-off. The winner of Tuesday′s championship will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II national tournament in Sioux City, IA beginning on March 8th.","author":null,"publishDate":"2007-02-24","type":"Athletics Press Release","title":"Dragon Slayers, Geneva Suffocates Tiffin to Reach AMC Title Game","imageDesc":"","url":"/article/nr_wbball_2_24_07","blogCategories":"","id":"9a7016450a1504317d582674ab32bd6c","detailUrl":"/news/2007/02/nr_wbball_2_24_07.json","sourcePath":null,"slug":"nr_wbball_2_24_07"}}
