archer_softball.jpgBeaver Falls, PA – For the third time in the last four weeks, a Geneva College softball player has received a player of the week award. This week, sophomore Ashley Archer (Sanger, CA) was named the American Mideast Conference pitcher of the week. Archer tossed a pair of complete game shut-outs last week in helping lead Geneva to a perfect 4-0 record. Geneva′s softball team is 14-3 in its last 17 games and is sitting at 17-10 for the season.

A big reason for Geneva′s recent success has been the work of its dynamic pitching duo. Last week, senior Erinne Metler was named the AMC pitcher of the week. This week it was Archer′s turn after shutting out Grove City and Malone on back to back days.

Against Grove City, Archer allowed just three hits and struck out a pair in a 4-0 victory. The next day, Archer allowed just four hits in holding off Malone College 1-0. For the season, Archer is 8-5 with a team best 2.29 ERA. She has 11 complete games and a pair of saves to her credit. She has struck out 79 while walking just 30 batters in 91.2 innings.

Geneva will play host to Myers University on Tuesday before heading into AMC North play with scheduled doubleheaders against Ursuline, Tiffin and Notre Dame this week.
